Wansuk asks Centre to release fund for drinking water schemes

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP from Meghalaya Wansuk Syiem has urged the centre to immediately release funds for drinking water projects in the state which is currently facing serious problems despite receiving adequate rainfall.
Wansuk said that a number of drinking water schemes which were already sanctioned by the state government are languishing due to lack of funds and raised the matter in the House on Wednesday.
“As it is funds sanction for drinking water has already been reduced by the Centre in recent years,” Wansuk said.
“Prior to 201415 the centre used to sanction about a hundred crore rupees for Mehgalaya which now has been reduced to just Rs 31.24 crore,” she added.
The lone MP also spoke in detail about the drinking water crisis the hill state has been experiencing in recent years despite receiving good rainfall.
