State wins big at Open International Taekwondo C’ship
SHILLONG: A team of Taekwondo Academy of Khasi Hills, which has recently returned back to the state, led by its head coach S. Konwar and woman coach L. Konwar represented the state in the 2nd Open International Taekwondo Championship held at Goal Bagh Indoor Stadium, Amritsar on December. The team was honored with Champions trophy as well as best team trophy. The team bagged 20 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals.

U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy: Bihar beat Meghalaya
SHILLONG: Meghalaya were beaten by Bihar by 191 runs in their U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy plate group match at the MCA Cricket Ground, Polo in the city on Friday. Resuming play on the third day on 219/8 in their second innings, Bihar were bowled out for 243. That set Meghalaya a target of 295 to win. Bihar had made 151 in their first innings, with Meghalaya replying with 100. Kartik Pawar wrapped up the last two wickets to finish with figures of 6/81. Abhishek Kumar had scored almost all of Bihar’s 24 runs today, finishing on 67 not out. Batting was again difficult for the hosts and they were dismissed for 103. P Rohit top-scored with 30, while captain Akash Kumar contributed 22 lower down the order. Meghalaya thus bowed out of the tournament with only one win from their eight games, but with plenty of experience that should stand them in good stead for the future. Some highlights from their season include Rohit Shah’s double century against Sikkim. Pawar is also the tournament’s fourth-highest wicket-taker with 46 for the season. Akash is eighth overall with 39 scalps.

Sporting Club, Madanryting CC win 2nd division cricket matches
SHILLONG: In the first match of the Second Division Shillong Cricket League on Friday, Sporting Club defeated Sumer SC by 3 wickets. Sumer SC won the toss and elected to bat, knocking a total of 86/10 in 18 overs with Pranjal Medhi scoring 18 runs in 31 balls while Deekreet Chandranath made 14 runs in 13 balls. Jiten Rabha claimed 4 wickets while Robert Ralte took 3 wickets for Sporting Club. Chasing, Sporting SC reached the target of 87 losing 7 wickets in 19.4 overs with Wanpyndap Kharmawphlang scoring 17 runs in 37 balls and Sunimal Hajong contributing 9 runs in 7 balls. Milan Sharma and Kashi Basfor took 2 wickets each for Sumer SC. In the second match of the day Madanryting CC won by 2 runs defeating Matrisangha. Madanryting CC won the toss and elected to bat, gaining a total of 128/10 in 16.5 overs with Roopam Dey scoring 53 runs in 39 balls and Akash Dogra making 21 runs in 17 balls. Manjit Das took 4 wickets while Siddhart took 3 wickets for Matrisangha. Matrisangha’s close chase landed them to 126 by losing of all wickets in 19.2 overs where Sachin Rai scored 37 runs in 27 balls while Paritosh Roy made 28 runs in 24 balls.

Football League Tournament U-12 & U-14 results
SHILLONG: The results of Football League Tournament of the Shillong Sports Association which was held on Friday are, in the U-12 category, Lumparing SC beat Mawkhar SC 3-0, Lawmei SC beat LumshyiapSC 4-0 and Langsning FC beat Umpling SC 19-1. In the U-14 matches, Langsning FC beat Mawkhar SC 12-0 and Nongkseh SC beat Mawryngkneng SC 1-0. Today’s matches, in the U-12 category Mawlai S.C. will play against Nongthymmai SC. at 10.30 am, Nongkseh S.C. vs Laitkor SC. at 12 pm and Golflink SC vs Mawnianglah FC at 2 pm. On the other hand, U-14 year matches are Marbisu SC vs Lawmei SC at 12 pm and Krang SC vs Nongthymmai SC at 2 pm.

National voters’ day run
SHILLONG: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin together with the office of the District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills, will conduct the ‘National Voters Day Run’ (7.3 Kms) at Nongstoin on January 25 as part of the ‘National Voters Day’ with a theme “NO VOTER TO BE LEFT BEHIND” for below 18 years Boys & Girls and above 18 years Men & Women. Cash prizes & Certificates will be awarded to the winners. Special prizes will also be awarded to the youngest and oldest participant. All entries should be submitted to the office of the District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills, on or before January 23.
