SHILLONG: The enquiry committee of the Education Department has submitted its report to the government pertaining to the issues surrounding Pine Mount School and the matter will be taken up at the higher level for actionable points.
An official from the department told The Shillong Times that the government will submit the action taken report to the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR).
SCPCR chairperson Meena Kharkongor had exposed various anomalies in the functioning of the school. There were complaints of poor administration and lack of coordination between the principal and teachers.
Other problems include poor functioning of the hostel as the young boarders are deprived of safe water, proper environment and nutritious food. There were also complaints about the food served in the hostel.
Kharkongor found these shortcomings during a visit to the school on October 1 last year.
Besides, the buildings are in poor condition. It was also found that the school did not have a counsellor, visiting doctor or nurses to address the needs of the boarders in case of an emergency.
Unhygienic bedrooms of the boarders were also detected and conversion of the dining place to a study-room had irked the commission.
