Meghalaya assigns VIPs to take salute in R-Day

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday finalised the names of the VIPs who will take salute during the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong  after the meeting on Wednesday said that Governor Tathagata Roy will take the salute in Shillong while Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma will take the salute in Tura.

Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh will take the salute in Nongstoin while Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui will take the salute in Jowai.

Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek will be heading to Ampati while PHE Minister, Samlin Malngiang will be in Williamnagar.

Meanwhile, the State Cabinet also approved the name of P Nongtduy for the U Tirot Sing Award for Arts and Literature. Nongtdu is the principal of  Jaintia Eastern College and he has written a number of books and articles

The Pa Togan Sangma award for social service will be awarded to Rev George Mamalasari, former Bishop of Tura diocese. He is also a well-known educationist who has he worked tirelessly to uplift the socio-economic status of tribals of Garo Hills.

The Kiang Nangbah award for sports  will be awarded to Eugene Marak, a taekwondo player who represented India in the World Taekwondo Hanamandang, Asian Continential Championship in 2016 in Pokhara, Nepal
