New DELHI: Gandhian social worker Anna Hazare, who has accused the Narendra Modi government of taking the country towards ‘dictatorship’, has demanded once again that Lokpal be constituted and will go on hunger strike from January 30.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Anna has said that his government does not follow the decisions of constitutional institutions such as the Supreme Court, Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, and is taking the country “from democracy to dictatorship”.
“It seems that you and your government believe in the principles of Mahatma Gandhiji, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, but your government is leaving the truth that they have followed in life,” he said. ”Your government is cheating the countrymen. For this reason, I am fasting on January 30 in my village Ralegan Siddhi,” he said.
”Important legislation such as Lokpal and Lokayuktas are not being implemented and government’s repeated lies cannot be tolerated. Therefore, I have decided to fast from the date of the death of Mahatma Gandhi,” he said. Anna said that the Constitution is top in our country. ”On the basis of the Constitution, different constitutional institutions have been formed in Parliament to run the country through a democratic route,” he said.
”The government maybe from any party, it is very important to follow the decision of the constitutional institutions to run the country through a democratic path,” he said. Anna alleged that the Prime Minister and the government are not following the decisions of constitutional institutions. ”There is a big threat to the country’s democracy,” he said. He alleged that even after nearly five years of coming to power, Modi’s government did no work to make Lokpal and Lokayukta. (UNI)
