Cabinet clears Jan 26 itinerary, names of awardees

SHILLONG: The state Cabinet on Wednesday finalised the names of the VIPs who will take salute during the Republic Day celebrations next week.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said Governor Tathagata Roy will take the salute in Shillong while Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will be in Tura.
Tourism Minister Metbah Lyngdoh will take the salute in Nongstoin and Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui will visit Jowai.
Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek and PHE Minister Samlin Malngiang will be in Ampati and Williamnagar, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the name of P Nongtdu for the U Tirot Sing Award in Arts and Literature. Nongtdu is the principal of Jaintia Eastern College and has written a number of books and articles.
The Pa Togan Sangma award for social service will be given to Rev George Mamalasari, former Bishop of Tura diocese.
He is also a well-known educationist and he worked tirelessly to uplift the socio-economic status of the tribals of Garo Hills.
The Kiang Nangbah award for sports will be awarded to Eugene Marak, a taekwondo player who represented India in the World Taekwondo Hanamandang, Asian Continental Championship in Pokhara, Nepal in 2016.
