SHILLONG: The two toll plazas set up on the newly constructed Jowai-Ratacherra road will be made operational later this month.
An official who implemented the project said the toll plazas will be managed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
Though the project was completed last March, the NHAI was facing several constraints as far as setting up of the toll plaza in West Jaintia Hills due to land hurdles.
Though toll plazas are usually six-lane, the ones in West Jaintia Hills will be a four-lane due to unavailability of land.
It was also informed that the implementing agency still needs more land for drainage work and without the completion of the drainage work, the physical progress of the project would be considered as 98 percent.
Meanwhile, sources also said that now there is a proposal to convert the entire road into a four-lane road and work on detailed project report has started.
GR Infrastructure, which implemented the project, has to maintain the road for another three years.
The 102-km road was constructed at a cost of Rs 683 crore by National Highway Authority of India.
