SHILLONG: A major portion of the Mawphlang-Balat road that connects the rest of the country with Bangladesh international border is in a dilapidated condition for a long time but repairing of the road has not been taken up so far.
Earlier, local MLA from Mawsynram HM Shangpliang said the deputy chief minister had assured on the floor of the House that repair work would be taken up on priority basis “but nothing has been done on the ground till now”.
About 25km stretch of the road is in bad condition and last year the Public Accounts Committee had inspected the road along with Dangar-Ryngkhu road, which is also in a poor condition.
Repairing of the road is important in view of the safety and security of the border.
It is learnt that the Government is working on administrative approval of the road.
Meanwhile, there are 18 wooden bridges in Mawsynram which need to be repaired.
