SHILLONG: NPP state president WR Kharlukhi predicted better performance in Jaintia Hills in the council polls in February as compared to the previous years.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Kharlukhi said the party will face an electoral battle with UDP, its partner in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) in Jaintia Hills.
“In Jaintia Hills, the fight seems to be between NPP and UDP. I expect we will be doing quite well in Jaintia Hills. In Khasi Hills also, we will be improving a lot unlike in the previous years,” he said.
Kharlukhi said the NPP will be a force to be reckoned with as he asserted that voters are too intelligent to believe in lies of the opponents about its alliance with the BJP.
The NPP has so far released the names of 27 candidates who will contest the polls for the Khasi Hills and the Jaintia Hills autonomous district councils.
