PDF names new member as JHADC poll candidate
SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has welcomed Timing Lyngdoh to the party and also confirmed his candidature in the ensuing polls for the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) from Mynsngat-Khanduli constituency. PDF leaders comprising Ivanlumlang Marbaniang, Dipshon Ryntathiang, chief organising secretary of PDF Shibor Lamare, president of PDF East Jaintia Hills District Committee and others were present at a meeting held at Namdong B village on Tuesday. The meeting was held with the support of Dorbar Shnong Namdong B, which has over 1,500 households pledging support to Timing. The PDF has so far released two lists of candidates. The first list had nine names, including four sitting MDCs, and the rest are new faces.
The second list has five candidates vying for the JHADC seats while four names came out for KHADC. On the same day, the office bearers of Mynsngat-Khanduli PDF Committee was also confirmed with Marbiangki War as president, Dring Ksoo as vice president and Julius Pakma as general secretary.

Hima Sohiong residents protest against Lyngdoh
SHILLONG: Residents from Hima Sohiong suddenly marched towards the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) carrying banners and were agitated over the issue of the Lyngdoh in Hima Sohiong. It is learnt that most of the residents are from Krang pyllun who demanded that the District Council should remove the acting Lyngdoh, Phrident Sing Thabah and to appoint Bashemphang Thabah. The KHADC CEM HS Shylla said a decision will be taken after he visits Sohiong when agitated people showed him that allegations against Bashemphang were baseless. Previously there were allegations that Bashemphang was authoritative and issued many sanad to many sordars at Krang. Based on the allegations, the District Council suspended him.

Resubelpara parents seek action against fake talent promoter
TURA: Parents of children who participated in the Garo Hills Super Challenge from Resubelpara have submitted a complaint against organizers to the Deputy Commissioner for allegedly duping the participants and cancelling events after the payment of entry fees. Earlier, organizers of the challenge on the pretext of promoting talent from the region had invited enrollment of participants by charging an amount as entry fee. However, after announcing the dates for the finals, they are said to have absconded without holding the event as scheduled. The parents from Resubelpara in North Garo Hills have urged the deputy commissioner to take action against the alleged fraudsters and to disallow them from organizing such events in the future.

Training in crop insurance under PMFBY held in Tura
TURA: Training programme on Crop Insurance under Pradhan Mantri Faisal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was held at SMELC Conference Hall, Dakopgre, Tura for Master Trainers of five districts of Garo Hills region. The programme was organised by the Directorate of Agriculture/ Horticulture in collaboration with Agriculture Insurance Company (AIC), Government of India which will be the implementing agency in the state. West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh in his brief address informed that Pradhan Mantri Faisal Bima Yojana(PMFBY) is a flagship programme of the Government of India which aims to support sustainable production in agriculture sector by providing financial assistance to farmers suffering crop loss and damage arising out of unforeseen events. He encouraged farmers to adopt innovative and modern agriculture practices and also to ensure flow of credit to agriculture sector enhancing food security besides protecting farmers from production risks.
