SHILLONG: The Confederation of Hynniewtrep Social Organisations (CoHSO) staged hunger strike at Additional Secretariat Parking lot on Thursday to oppose the BJP and other MPs who supported the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016.
Chairman of CoHSO, Robert June Kharjahrin informed reporters that Garo Hills Joint Action Committee had also joined hands with CoHSO.
Stating the founding fathers of the Indian Constitution has accorded secular status to India, he said the CAB not only violates the secular principle but also disrupts the federal structure of India.
“With this Bill, the secular concept is diluted. The Bill also violate federal structure as we see the Indian government going ahead with the Bill despite opposition,” Kharjahrin said.
He criticised BJP for coming out with the Bill, terming it as the saffron party’s surreptitious agenda.
