State to be awarded for best electoral practices

SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India has said Meghalaya will be awarded for Best State for Electoral Practices 2018 for overall performance in election management.
The other two states which will receive the national awards are Karnataka and Chhattisgarh.
Informing this here on Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said the state election management covered criteria like EP ratio, partnership building, conduct of elections, voters’ turnout and most notably innovative voter awareness and electoral participation.
The award carries cash prize, a plaque and citation which will be conferred by the President to Kharkongor at the national function of National Voters’ Day in New Delhi on January 25.
The CEO said the state’s efforts have been recognised.
