GUWAHATI: In order to boost the mobility of forest staff in Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Marigaon district of Assam, a motor-cycle was provided to the authority of the Aaranyak, a biodiversity research and conservation organisation on Friday.
The motor-cycle which is sponsored by Nabu International, was handed over to Pabitora sanctuary in presence of the DFO of Guwahati Wildlife Division, Pradipta Baruah, Ranger of Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary Mukul Tamuli and Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), Rohini Kumar Das at the administrative office of Aaranyak here.
The motor-cycle was handed over by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aaranyak, Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar.
The tiny Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary located about 45 kilometer from Guwahati is a treasure trove of one-horned Indian rhinoceros. The sanctuary boasts of highest rhino density on the globe.
The motor cycle us expected to give a fillip to the patrolling in the 38 square kilometer park that has a core area of 16 square kilometers.
With 102 precious rhinos thriving in such a small area, Pobitora is toasted as the wildlife park with highest rhino density in the world.
Ranger Mukul Tamuli said that the boat would be of tremendous help during the flood season for patrolling to safeguard the wildlife in the park.
Aaranyak recently facilitated a motor boat for the wildlife sanctuary and boots for frontline staff much to the boon for the conservation and protection of wildlife in the sanctuary that receives huge number of tourists every year.
