’SHILLONG: Vijay Raj, whose appointment to a government post has been strongly opposed by the Khasi Students’ Union, has clarified that he was never part of the Non-Tribal Youth Union (NTYU) as has been reported.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, Raj said he never “in his entire life done anything against the interest of the local community” but has “served and tried my level best to serve the state as a whole by serving in different capacities and always worked for uplift of the society irrespective of caste, creed or religion”.
The KSU had alleged that Raj was the president of NTYU and an enemy of the Khasi community.
Raj said he had served as the vice-chairman of the State Development Reform Commission and “I am very thankful to Sanbor Shullai, MLA and the then NCP president, for recommending my name for the same, further the records can show that I have taken up such issues which are of interest for the local communities”.
