SHILLONG: The Supreme Court has allowed transportation of coal by trucks which are in transit during the hearing on the matter on Monday.
Earlier on January 15, the court had banned transportation of extracted coal.
However, there were many coal-laden trucks which were in transit after obtaining challans.
Ranjan Mukherjee, Supreme Court lawyer and counsel for the state government, said on phone from Delhi that the State Coordination Committee of Coal Owners and Mine Dealers Forum filed an appeal to facilitate the movement of coal-laden trucks which were already on the road.
Another appeal for transportation of coal was by an individual from West Khasi Hills who had procured 16,600 metric tonnes of coal through auction from the state government.
The court allowed transportation in this case too and fixed the matter for hearing on February 19.
