SHILLONG: As Shillong city is set to  witness two public rallies on January  30  and  31 to be called by different NGOs to oppose Citizenship Amendment Bill, the Shillong police have beefed up security measures across the city.

East Khasi Hills SP, Davis Marak on Tuesday said that the  police would deploy strong force to ensure that law and order is maintained on both the days

“ We do not expect trouble since the organisers have taken permission for a peaceful rally and meeting but we will take all preventive measures,” Marak said

He said that security will be intensified throughout the sensitive areas of Shillong  with heavy deployment of police especially in Motphran

It may be mentioned that the KSU has called for a massive public rally-cum-meeting on Wednesday to be followed by similar public meeting to be held on December 31  to be called by  Confederation of Hynniewtrep Social Organisation (COhSO) to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill   2016 (CAB), which seeks to provide citizenship to minority immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

The KSU has called for public meeting based on the instructions given by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO).
