NONGSTOIN: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) in Nongstoin has denounced its central leadership’s decision to give ticket to LG Nongsiej for the council elections without consulting the party unit.
The HSPDP unit said it did not accept the decision of party president KP Pangniang who “acted on his own without the consent of the party leaders from Nongstoin”.
“If he is the person responsible for the decision then he will be responsible for the downfall of the party,” the local leaders said.
The Nongstoin leaders wanted to field Sanjied Kynsai Sohshang for the upcoming election. But the party ignored the decision and allotted Nongsiej, “who is a traitor” and quit the party after the death of Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
“The party is now in worst situation and KP Pangniang will have to take responsibility of the situation because after Nongsiej was allotted the party ticket, supporters have fled and joined other parties because they have lost their faith in the leadership of Pangniang and Nongsiej,” said Diosstarness Jyndiang, the party head in Nongstoin.
Jyndiang added that under the leadership of Pangniang, the party no more respects people’s decision.
Sohshang, who was the ticket aspirant, said the party’s central executive committee had decided that candidature would be decided by of the primary units, “which is the procedure”, but it was “shocking” how the president took the decision himself.
The HSPDP has a stronghold in Nongstoin for more than 45 years. But recently, some of its leaders have joined the Congress and the NPP.
