JOWAI: The KSU Laskein Circle in West Jaintia Hills organised a protest rally on Monday to condemn the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl by her uncle, Dawanbiang Langstang on January 17.
The rally, which commenced from Priang village where the incident took place and culminated at Iawpynkat in Iooksi, was also attended by members of FKJGP, Women’s Society and villagers.
Speaking at the rally, KSU president Ohibait Dkhar and FKJGP vice president Danny Shadap expressed their concern over the incident.
“The law should punish the person who had committed such a heinous crime with life imprisonment,” the leaders said.
The KSU and the FKJGP, along with headmen of the area, decided to write to the government seeking strong action against Langstang.
Police with the help of the VDP arrested Langstang on January 18. The accused had admitted to his crime and told police that he was inebriated.
