SHILLONG: The construction of the delayed IT park in New Shillong Township has finally begun.
IT Minister Hamlet Dohling said the project is making “good progress” but some groups are interfering in the work.
“The government will not allow anyone to disturb the project and if any group has any issues it can come and share grievances with me,” said the minister, adding that the government would invest at least Rs 30 crore to make the park functional by next year.
The state government will invite major IT companies to create large-scale employment at the park. For now, it aims to create over 400 jobs. It will also ensure that there is proper power and internet supply, besides well-established road network.
The project is complicated as the state has to compete with metro cities like Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkata. The department is also contemplating road shows to invite IT players after the government’s nod to the final model.
The IT park project has been delayed for years though the Urban Affairs Department provided land to the IT Department long time back.
It is learnt that the government would decide about the facilities once the building is completed.
