SHILLONG: The representation of youths from Meghalaya has increased in the armed forces.
Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh, Defence PRO Shillong, on Tuesday said the representation from Meghalaya has increased in the armed forces, “which is a positive sign”.
“We have a number of youths from Meghalaya and other parts of the region who are willing to join armed forces rallies,” he said, adding that rallies are conducted in different parts of the state to give the youths an opportunity to join the forces.
Citing an example, Singh said the armed forces last year conducted a recruitment rally in Tura where more than 4,500 youths turned up.
He also said the armed forces continuously organise various kind of programmes like festivals, “arms display programmes to motivate youths to join the forces”.
“The enthusiasm, participation and response which is coming up from the youths here is huge,” he added. He also said earlier there may have been lack of awareness about recruitment in the army but now things have changed and every information about recruitment is available easily before the public.
