TURA: Tura police have dismissed reports about the abduction of a youth from Nakham Bazar locality on January 24 as was reported in the media.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, MGR Kumar told The Shillong Times that prima facie evidence indicts personal enmity between the youth and those who briefly accompanied him on that evening.
The father of the so-called victim, Prince Gupta, informed Tura police control room that his 29-year-old son had disappeared and presumed kidnapped along with his motorcycle.
However, on checking CCTV footage at different points of the town, police identified the bike and a maruti van moving suspiciously through the main market area at 7 pm, hours after his disappearance.
“Had the victim been kidnapped with his vehicle then the abductors would not have been moving around town on his bike knowing fully well that police would have been alerted,” said the police chief.
The same night a police team intercepted the bike and van prompting the riders to abandon the two-wheeler and flee in the van.
Strangely, the suspected victim Prince Gupta and a friend emerged in Tura the very same night claiming to have boarded a pik up truck after they were released somewhere in Damalgre area.
Both victims have so far not revealed any details of their disappearance to the police and investigation is currently on.
