Free drug policy in Meghalaya from next fiscal

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Government would implement the free drug policy from the next financial year.

Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday, Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek said that  72 essential drugs will be provided to the patients free of cost on a 24X 7 basis in all the government hospitals

Hek said the matter was discussed with the Chief Minister and the department was asked to go ahead with the policy.

It is learnt that the new initiative of the Meghalaya Government would cost its exchequer around Rs 100  crores.

The policy has been adopted in line with the  free drug policy launched by the Government of India.

The funding pattern for the policy will be on a 90: 10 basis under the National Health Mission programme of the Union Government.
