SHILLONG: The Shillong Municipal Board has sent a showcause notice to Delhi Mistan Bhandar in Police Bazar for keeping the shop closed during a protest on January 8 against the citizenship bill.
The protest was called by the North East Students’ Organisation. The civic board, in its notice, said, “… you have been found to collectively close shop for the whole day on the
8th of January 2019 on account of the bandh called by NESO thereby indicating that you have stayed away from your lawful avocation and for keeping your establishment closed on the above mentioned date.”
“Therefore in pursuance of the order of the HC… you are hereby required to show cause as to why your business licence should not be revoked/cancelled for causing unnecessary inconvenience to the public,” the notice dated January 15 added. The shop has been asked to reply by Thursday.
