Conrad to approach like-minded parties to oppose Citizenship Bill

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the government would approach like-minded parties who oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (CAB).

The CM along with Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders including Atul Bora and Praful Kumar Mahanta, leaders of UDP, Donkupar Roy met leaders from different NDA allies including JDU, Shiv Sena, Akali Dal and the Lok Janshakti Party requesting them to support the cause of the people to oppose the CAB.
“After discussing with all the leaders, we got a very positive response from almost all the allies who have agreed to vote against the Bill if it is brought in the Rajya Sabha,” he said in an audio statement.

Sangma informed they would continue meeting other parties, who have similar mindset and stand against the Bill.

“We will appeal them to vote against the Bill if it is brought and to oppose it and continue appealing to the government of India not to table the Bill in the Rajya Sabha,” he added.
