MUDA to implement Building Byelaws in Municipal areas

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government has  notified the  Meghalaya Building Byelaws, 2011 ( amended in 2015) empowering the Meghalaya Urban Development authority for its implementation.

In a notification issued here on Friday,  the Principal Secretary of the Urban Affairs said that the  Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA)  has been entrusted for implementing the Building Byelaws  for areas under Municipal areas and scheme areas

The notification also exempted autonomous District Councils areas from Municipal areas and scheme areas

The notification also said that the public desirous for applying building permission in the areas outside municipal limits may approach either of the above authorities for obtaining their sanction of building permission, occupancy certificates.

Earlier in a meeting between the department and the three CEMs of JHADC, KHADC and GHADC including leaders of the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep, the department decided that it would withdraw the notification issued on January 13, 1989.

Earlier, the Cabinet had approved the proposal of the Urban Affairs Department to allow district councils to grant building permission in non-municipal areas.

The three district councils will take care of the issues related to construction of buildings in scheduled areas  and the proposal includes all the master plan areas of the state as specified by the Urban Affairs Department but excludes the municipal areas.
