GUWAHATI: Leading agrochemical producer, Insecticides India Limited (IIL) has launched a product here for tea gardens in the Northeast to effectively control bugs which have considerably affected crop over the years.

Tea estates in Assam particularly are susceptible to lepidopteron and sucking pests such as looper and tea mosquito bug.     Plantations have been incurring huge losses in terms of quality and yield owing to the presence of the bugs.

The insecticide was jointly launched with Indofil Industries Limited, a research-led and fully integrated chemical company.

The insecticide can be sprayed at any of the stages of crop and remains effective even if it rains four hours after the spray.

C. Bishnoi, chief operating officer, Global-1, Indofil Industries Limited along with Rajesh Aggarwal, managing director of Insecticides (India) Limited, was present at the launch in the city on Friday.

“Assam is India’s largest tea-producing region accounting for about 55 percent of the total annual production. However, the hot and humid climatic conditions suitable for tea are also conducive to the growth of insects. Therefore, a new generation, effective and safer product for the control of insects becomes imperative,” Aggarwal said.

The new product is a patented combination product of two molecules and has been developed by the research and development team of Insecticides (India) to help planters for better production.

“Nikhar is an effective product giving dual control of tea semi looper and mosquito bug. Our prelaunch demonstrations exhibited very good control of target pests and we are confident that this product will be good value addition for tea growers,” Bishnoi said.

Present in the Northeast market since 2009, IIL also informed about working in the tea segment in a more aggressive manner in the years to come.
