SHILLONG: A group of Khasi candidates from the city who appeared for the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET) have asked the government to conduct fresh examination.
The government conducted the examination for recruitment of teachers in LP and UP schools on Thursday.
The candidates fear that if question papers were leaked in Garo Hills, it must have happened elsewhere in the state. They also demanded a CBI probe into the fiasco.
Several candidates briefed the media on Saturday on the need to go for fresh examinations after cancelling the previous one.
One of the candidates, JJ Lyngkhoi, said the state government has not come up with any clear statement on the matter though police have started inquiry.
“The state government has not made it clear whether fresh examination will be conducted,” Lyngkhoi said.
The government has not instituted any departmental inquiry into the MTET question paper leak.
Another candidate, Meralysha Byrsaw, said it is a matter of concern that the question paper leak has affected several deserving candidates.
According to them, the government should have taken proper measures before supplying question papers to various centres.
Over 28,000 candidates from across the state appeared for the MTET exam that was held on Thursday.
Though the government claimed that the question paper leak was from one centre, Congress legislator from Phulbari Azad Zaman said the leaked question papers were available all over Garo Hills.
“The chief minister should come up with a statement on the matter and only a CBI probe can bring to light the truth,” he said while questioning Conrad Sangma’s silence even after three days.
Referring to the education scam, Zaman said according to the Supreme Court order, the government this time was supposed to conduct the examination under CCTV surveillance but that was not done.
He saw “ulterior motive” in allowing candidates who were declared tainted by the court in the education scam. “What kind of governance can we expect from this government,” he added.
