GUWAHATI: Over 100 litterateurs from 20 countries will take part in the third edition of the Brahmaputra Literary Festival which gets under way here from Saturday.

Organised by Publication Board Assam, the three-day festival will lay emphasis on the literature of South East Asia (ASEAN) in sync with the central government’s Act East Policy and improving exchange of ideas and culture between the ASEAN and Northeast India.

“One of the unique aspects of the festival this year will be a programme that offers opportunity for upcoming writers of the state to interact with the invited litterateurs from around the world. Twenty such writers aspiring to meet the litterateurs have so far been selected,” the Publication Board’s secretary, Pramod Kalita told reporters here on Thursday.

Kalita also informed that 34 students from Mizoram and 20 from Nagaland are taking part in the literary festival to be held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra. “Moreover, teachers and students of over 25 colleges of Assam are taking part in the festival,” he said.

Besides, a book written by actress, Manisha Koirala, who had battled and overcome cancer, will be the key topic of a special programme during the literary festival.
