SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate, Paul Lyngdoh said state government and the District Councils were undergoing relationship crisis and bemoaned the gap in leadership in the district council.
Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination on Thursday, he said the Autonomous District Councils were not able to perform well.
According to him, the executive committee of district council should have a coordination with the state government pointing to “the tussle with the KHADC and state government.”
Auguster Jyrwa, a former Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) leader and candidate for Congress from Jaiaw constituency would go head-to-head with his senior leader in the KSU, Paul Lyngdoh.
On Auguster Jyrwa, Lyngdoh called him “my grandchild”, Lyngdoh was two generation ahead of him in Khasi Students’ Union (KSU). Lyngdoh said he was in the KSU for 10 years.
He added that Jaiaw constituency needed matured and tested people. “We need young leaders who are enthusiastic. We need leaders who have experience with the vigour of a youth”, he said.
Expressing appreciation for the bill and maintained that the District Council has done his part, he said the ILP has to be implemented at the level of the state government.
“Ideally speaking, it is the state government who will take the initiative,” Lyngdoh said.
