TURA: Health secretary Pravin Bakshi has said the transfer of senior doctors at Tura Civil Hospital was based on seniority.
Bakshi said on Thursday the doctors “have to move out since Meghalaya has a shortage of specialists”. However, the government will review the decision on Friday.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has decided to approach the government over the early appointment of qualified doctors to fill the vacant posts at the hospital.
Earlier, two senior pathologists who were also the heads of the blood bank and laboratory departments were transferred from the hospital.
Following the news report of the transfers, an MPYC delegation along with Boldamgre MDC Stevie M Marak visited the hospital where they were informed by the superintendent, Minakshi A Sangma, that the transfers were based on their seniority.
“These are crucial departments and before the transfer of these doctors, replacements should already have been found.”
“Both the transfer orders for the doctors and their replacements should have been made on the same day and the replacements should have come immediately. Since we will be taking reports everyday regarding this matter, we would like to request the government to expedite the process at the earliest,” MPYC President Richard Marak said.
