MAWKYRWAT: Together with the rest of the country, the office of the District Transport Officer, South West Khasi Hills district on Friday observed the 30th National Road Safety Week at his office compound here with HS Diengdoh, Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, and in-charge District Transport Officer as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Diengdoh said that the programme was organised with a view to sensitise drivers and pedestrians on rules and regulations related to road safety in order to safeguard precious and innocent lives.
Diengdoh also reminded the drivers of their roles and responsibilities while laying stress on the need to follow certain rules and procedures to avoid accidents.
He urged them not to use mobile phones and avoid intoxicated drinks while driving and to strictly adhere to and obey traffic and other rules.
The DTO also informed that meetings with associations will be held soon in order to streamline traffic and for its smooth regulation in the district.
S Paslein, Deputy Superintendent of Police, South West Khasi Hills district, dwelt at length on the traffic and other rules pertaining to road safety.
Meanwhile, H Dkhar, Motor Vehicle Inspector, South West Khasi Hills district, gave a brief presentation on the importance of signs, road safety policy and rules and procedures which drivers and pedestrians need to follow.
