NPP candidate vows to set up more KHADC depts in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: The NPP candidate for the district council election here has said KHADC departments like forest, land and elaka will be opened in Nongstoin to create employment for youths if NPP come to power.
Speaking at an NPP campaign, which started on Friday, candidate Apsharailang Syiem said Nongstoin, which was neglected for 46 years, saw development under the NPP. “A hundred crore has been sanctioned for various developmental activities, including road projects,” he added.
Stressing the need for preserving traditional rights of the Khasis, Syiem said the district council branch in Nongstoin has been neglected.
“People get benefit only in terms of professional tax because there is only one department whereas more branches are in Shillong,” he added and assured that if he wins the election and the executive committee is formed by the NPP, then he will start branches like forest, land and elaka.
The NPP candidate, while addressing hundreds of people at Nongstoin market, also spoke about preserving the customary practice of Khasi matrilineal society, customary law, ownership of land and strengthening the forest act and rule and improving and developing marketing skills.
