Central tourism projects in 3 districts on track

SHILLONG: Two central tourism projects, Swadesh Darshan and Prashad, are in progress and will be completed in two years.
Tourism Minister Metbah Lyngdoh has said the department will try to finish the projects, which are fully centrally funded, within the stipulated time.
The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned four new projects to the tune of Rs 190.46 crore under Swadesh Darshan and Prashad schemes for Meghalaya, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
Under North East Circuit of Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the ministry has sanctioned Rs 84.92 crore for the project Development of West Khasi Hills for areas, which include Nongkhlaw-Krem Tirot-Khudoi and Kohmang Falls–Khri river-Mawthadraishan.
For Jaintia Hills, the tourist locations are Krang Shuri Falls-Shyrmang-Iooksi and the areas in Garo Hills are Nokrek Reserve, Katta Beel and Siju Caves.
The projects focus on development of lesser known destinations in Meghalaya.
The ministry will develop facilities like festival grounds, tourist facilitation centre, last mile connectivity, public conveniences, cable suspension bridge, cafeteria, trekking routes, boating facilities, illumination, solid waste management, drinking water facility, caving facilities, visitor centers, adventure sports activities and craft haat, among other things.
