TURA: Five persons, including three women, sustained injuries after an armed gang of dacoits raided their home and assaulted them on Monday night at remote Rongchandalgre village under Phulbari police station.

The gang also looted 2.5 lakh rupees belonging to the family.

The incident took place shortly after midnight with the gang taking advantage of the prevailing load shedding that was in place at that point of time.

The head of the family, Rajen Marak and his son, Bikram Marak sustained serious injuries after the dacoits assaulted them with rods and sticks. Another three members of the family, all  women, identified as Silkame M Marak (daughter), Chengche M Marak and Samantha M Marak sustained minor injuries.

Villagers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the gang came in a black Scorpio vehicle and targeted Rajen Marak’s home located close to the main road of the village.

It is strongly suspected that the gang, numbering 10-12 men, deliberately targetted Rajen as he had  sold his arecanut produce, valued at over three lakh rupees, just a few days back.

“We are working on a few leads and are hopeful of a breakthrough in the case,” informed district police chief MGR Kumar.
