SHILLONG: The BSF will raise the issue of the presence of Indian insurgent groups in Bangladesh during the Intelligence Bureau and regional commanders’ level talks between BGB and BSF being held in Chattogram, Bangladesh.
A BSF official said on Tuesday that apart from the issue of insurgency, many important matters pertaining to trans border crime , developmental issues along the border will also be discussed during the meeting.
In addition, the issue of border fencing will also be discussed at length since there are 13 patches in Indian side which are within the 150 yards and BSF will have to seek the concurrence of the Bangladesh government for carrying out the work. The BGB in principle has agreed to allow the BSF to continue with the fencing in the 13 patches but detailed discussion will take place on the matter.
The regional commanders’ level meeting is being attended by the BSF officials in the Northeastern states and a delegation of BSF from Meghalaya has already left for the meeting.
Meghalaya shares around 443 kms of border with Bangladesh and the border is often used for trans-border crime such as smuggling of cattle and even infiltration.
