SHILLONG: As the BJP tried its best to push the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill in Rajya Sabha but failed to get it passed, the Congress in Meghalaya have now urged the people of the North East and other parts of the country not to vote for BJP in the elections or the saffron party would revive the Bill once again

Opposition Chief whip and  Congress MLA, PT Sawkmie on Wednesday said that it is hightime that the people fight against the BJP and  Congress will definitely  raise the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill in the elections since the people in the North East need to be conveyed to not to vote for BJP

“ If the BJP comes back to power again, they would again revive this Bill,” he said.

Asserting that the BJP made its best attempts to get the Bill passed in Rajya Sabha,  Sawkmie lauded the efforts played by  Opposition parties and different NGOs from  the region who stood together and opposed the Bill.

Stating that the Bill has united the whole North East region, he added that the Congress wanted the Bill to be scrapped for good.

Sawkmie said that the law and order situation in the region had been disturbed due to the Bill, Sawkmie also said that the BJP should apologize to the people of the North East and the county by admitting that they had done a big blunder by brining this Bill which would have harmed the indigenous people of the region
