SHILLONG: A review meeting on the state’s preparedness for council elections was held on Monday. It was chaired by the Chief Secretary Y Tsering.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Commissioner and Secretary, Tining Dkhar said the district administrations in respective districts are in a state of readiness.
He further informed that with the increase in the number of polling stations, the number of polling personnel will also increase.
He added that the number of polling stations in Khasi Hills is 1433 and the number of polling stations in Jaintia Hills is 408.
At a polling station, there will be a presiding officer and three polling officers.
There is a total number of 2745 EVMs and 820 new EVMs are expected to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday.
With regard to other matters, Dkhar said the PHE officials have been called for water connectivity and toilet facilities in the polling stations.
Anganwadi workers and community resource organisations will also be engaged to help Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). With regard to law and order, the DGP has assured deployment of adequate police personnel for security cover and some personnel will be requisitioned from Civil Defence and Home Guards to be deployed in the polling stations.
Regarding the polling stations in the inter-state border, the chief secretary and DGP will speak to their counterparts in Assam to maintain vigil.
“As for the sensitive and hypersensitive areas, the Deputy Commissioners will be able to identify within this week,” Dkhar said.
