SHILLONG: Police have identified the vehicles used by the KSU activists during the ‘peaceful’ victory rally which resulted in violence as a few residents were assaulted and shops damaged due to stone pelting at RR Colony and Rynjah market areas.
Shortly after three people were injured and few shops were damaged in the city on Wednesday following the victory rally organised by the KSU to celebrate the lapse of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had asked the DGP to inquire into the matter.
“The vehicles which were involved in the incident have been identified by the police and a case has been registered”, the chief minister said.
Stating that the police have made a headway into the incident, the chief minister, however, refused to admit that the government is going soft on anybody even as he added that the government cares for every citizen of the state.
Sangma said the government has to handle things with care while facing such situations.
He, however, added that though the government handles things with care, it does not mean that people will take law into their hands.
“Our care should not be seen as something that will be forgotten and we will let anybody do anything. That will not be the case,” the chief minister said.
Terming the assault on people and damage to the shops as something which is incorrect and unacceptable, he asserted that the police are on the job to investigate into the matter.
The KSU has already denied the allegations while maintaining that some people are taking advantage of the situation.
