TURA: The Anti-corruption and Human Development Organization (ACHDO) has strongly condemned the mob attack of three arecanut businessmen at Chanangpara village in West Garo Hills which left two victims dead and another grievously injured.
Mikseng Marak of Dawagre, Makibul Akond of Pushkonipara and Bita Rabha were attacked by an irate mob who suspected them to be members of a dacoit gang leading to the deaths of Marak and Akond while grievously injuring Rabha.
“We demand a magisterial inquiry into the incident and compensation must also be paid to all the three victims,” the organisation said.
The organisation said that due to misunderstanding, two innocent lives had been lost while one was battling for his life and raised concern on the incidents of moral policing and mob lynching taking place in Garo Hills again and again.
“Both of the slain persons are survived by their families. We urge the State Government to pay suitable compensation to the families of the deceased as well as to the grievously injured who is battling for his life,” the organisation said.
The organisation also urged the government to set up a police squads to fight against moral policing and mob assaults which should be made available in each and every police outpost so that such incidents do not happen in the future.
Stating that the incident had shaken the people and infused fear in their minds the organisation appealed to both the people from the hills and the plains to maintain peace at all cost.
