SHILLONG: The state BJP is preparing to contest both Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats.
With the BJP deciding to field candidates for Lok Sabha polls, indications are that the coalition parties in the MDA may put up candidates separately.
State BJP leader Shibun Lyngdoh said the preparation of the party is aimed at contesting both the states.
Lyngdoh made this statement after a meeting with BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha at the party office here on Monday.
The central leadership of the party asked the state leaders to prepare for the Lok Sabha polls.
The statement of the state BJP president assumes significance as discussion is currently underway in the NPP led MDA coalition to field a common candidate.
While UDP wanted a consensus on common candidate, the NPP has remained non- committal.
In contrary to the earlier stand, the state BJP president said the party did not field candidates for the district council polls since the central party leaders wanted the state BJP to concentrate on Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier, Shibun Lyngdoh said due to the adverse impact of CAB and related issues, the BJP did not want to put up candidates for KHADC-JHADC polls.
Changing his stand following a query, Lyngdoh said, “We had sent the names of 12 candidates to contest both KHADC and JHADC polls, but our central leaders instead want us to focus on the Lok Sabha polls”.
Mann Ki Baat
Earlier, Sinha discussed with the state leaders about Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an initiative asking people to give their suggestions on governance.
Boxes were kept at the party office for anyone to place their suggestions.
Sinha indicated that the attempt is to garner support for the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls.
