TURA: In view of various crimes taking place in Garo Hills during the night, Raksamgre MLA and Co-Chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board, Benedic R Marak has urged Power Minister, James K Sangma to direct the MeECL to reschedule load shedding hours for daytime all over Garo Hills.

“It has come to my notice that there has been a rise in various crimes all over Garo Hills during load shedding hours at night which is causing insecurity among the citizens. I would like to request that load shedding is done during the day,” Marak said in his letter.

The request for the change in load shedding hours comes following a spate of crimes recently especially against Catholic Parishes and institutions in Garo Hills. Taking advantage of the darkness during load shedding hours, miscreants broke into as many as six Catholic Churches within a span of a few days and looted them as well as assaulting the Priests in-charge.
