SHILLONG: As the BJP continues to work on its mission to make a Congress-mukt Bharat, former chief minister Mukul Sangma has called for a BJP-mukt Meghalaya as well as the North East along with the entire country.
Denouncing BJP national president Amit Shah for pushing for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the CLP leader said on Tuesday, “The bill is no longer a proposal and passing it is one of the pre-determined agenda of the RSS-backed BJP. The saffron party tried its best to pass the bill in the Rajya Sabha after passing it in the Lok Sabha despite stiff opposition from the people.”
He asserted that the BJP is keen to get a majority in the Upper House “so that it can pass such contentious bills”.
Taunting the local parties, some of which are part of the BJP-led national and regional alliances, by calling them “spineless”, Sangma said the satraps should follow in the footsteps of the Asom Gana Parishad and “not indulge in dramabaazi”
“Some political parties in Meghalaya have fallen prey to the agenda of the BJP,” he added.
The AGP that was an ally in the BJP-led government in Assam severed ties with the coalition soon after the Centre passed the bill in the Lok Sabha.
Sangma continued his tirade of criticisms by saying the BJP “will continue to push for CAB since the agenda are set at RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) headquarters in Nagpur”.
The former chief minister added that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his confidant Shah have been nurtured by RSS and “it cannot be expected from them to respect the sentiments of the people since they are the nominees of RSS”.
He said the Congress party had taken a firm stand against the bill and everybody responded to the call of Congress except BJP and their allies.
