10-yer-old raped, murdered by uncle in EKH

SHILLONG: A minor girl was raped and murdered by her 26-year-old uncle sparking protest in a village in East Khasi Hills (EKH) District of the state on Thursday.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday held a black flag rally demanding examplary punishment to Arson Jana, who committed the crime on February 10.

The family of the girl informed the police and after much interrogation, Jana confessed to the police about the crime.

It was learnt that Jana had killed his 10-year-old niece when the girl threatened to tell her mother about the atrocities committed on her by him. Jana allegedly strangulated her o death.

Interestingly, the accused also went in search of his niece when the family members found out she was missing in the evening.

The rally was taken out by hundreds of school students of 10 schools and residents of the village also extended solidarity.

The JAC consisted of member of the village Dorbar Shnong, Seng kynthei (women’s organization) and the KSU.

Incidents of rape by near and dear ones have surfaced of late in the state with the recent one being in January when a 5-year-old was raped by her uncle, Dawanbiang Langstang in a village in West Jaintia Hills.
