Two accused of bribing voter in run up to district council polls

SHILLONG: The election agent of Congress Ummulong Moodymmai constituency has filed an FIR against two persons for offering money to a voter with an appeal to cast her vote to an independent candidate.

The election agent, Klinsman Lamare lodged an FIR at Ummulong Beat House, West Jaintia Hills against Briwon Pohshna of Ummulong and Welly Muksor, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police for violation of election code of conduct.

He alleged that the two offered Rs 3000 to a lady, Mira Pyngrope of Wahrymbai village to cast her vote in favour of Charles Wilson Muksor, an independent candidate contesting the Ummulong Moodymmai constituency.

The said incident took place on February 20 and the FIR was filed on February 23.

Stating that it is a serious matter which invites violation of model code of conduct, Lamare requested the police department to take stern action against the two according to the provision of law.

He said the episode of bribery is substantiated by a video clip.
