TURA: To enable farmers to showcase their various agricultural produces and simultaneously sensitizing them about the schemes under agriculture and its allied sectors, Kisan Mela was on Monday organized at Mini Stadium, Resubelpara in North Garo Hills. The event was organized by Agricultural Technology Management Agency in tandem with Agriculture Department of North Garo Hills.

Speaking during the programme as the Chief Guest, Deputy Speaker and local MLA, T D Shira lauded the department for their endeavour in connecting the farming community and the agriculture sectors under one platform. He said the event will help farmers to have access to information on various agricultural schemes which according to him will benefit the farming community in many ways.

Deputy Commissioner, S C Sadhu opined that by introducing modern agricultural practices to the local farmers, the farming productivity could be increased. However the use of modern technology should not hamper the ecological balance of the region, he advocated.

Sadhu also added that the event should not be a mere showcase of agricultural activities but it should be a platform for both the farmers and the concerned departments to exchange ideas on boosting productivity and redress issues being faced by the farmers.

Stalls of about 22 numbers exhibiting variety of fruits, flowers, vegetables, dairy and fish products were set up at the programme venue. Flower Arrangement competition was also organized on the occasion and prize distribution for the same including presentation of award for best stall also took place.
