EMRI workers to go on strike

SHILLONG: Workers of GVK EMRI Meghalaya have given a strike notice to the management that did not respond to its demands. The Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union had submitted a charter of demands on December 6 last year.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the union said it has decided to continue services but will boycott filing of reports like case closure, refuelling report and fleet report with effect from January 15. Some of the demands of the workers included upgrading of ambulances, better working hours to ensure safety of patients and quality services, better wages and improved staffing, among others.
The union said workers will go on strike anytime beginning two weeks after the submission of the notice to strike.
During the period of strike all the 108 ambulances in the state will be handed over to the headquarters of GVK EMRI, Shillong.
