SHILLONG: The state government is contemplating a two-pronged approach to the problem of frequent unrest along the Assam-Meghalaya border giving thrust to both security and development.
Tynsong said the government will strengthen the existing police outposts at identified area of difference and improve road connectivity in those areas to avert trouble.
“Improving road connectivity and strengthening the police outpost at Langpih and simultaneously at Block 1 and 2 areas of Jaintia Hills is a priority of the government,” said Tynsong.
The statement came in the wake of demands from several NGOs to set up a permanent police station at Langpih.
Tynsong admitted that few incidents have occurred and the state government had set up a police outpost and now it wants to strengthen it which will create the presence of the administration. He also said the government is planning to construct a road connecting it with Rambrai area.
He is hopeful that if they manage to connect Langpih with Rambrai, “a lot of problems will be taken care of”.
Tynsong is of the view that improved connectivity in these areas will enable government officials and senior police officials to rush to the spot and diffuse the situation in case of any trouble.
