SHILLONG: The second tollgate plaza in the Jowai-Ratacherra road project would start operating from March 1.

Presently, one toll gate is operating at in East Jaintia Hills, and now there will be two from March 1 along the  102  km road.

An official said that the construction of the toll gate in West Jaintia Hills District had been completed and the agency which will operate the tollgate has been deployed.

Earlier, there were lot of difficulties for the NHAI to construct the second toll plaza at Lalong since there were certain objections from a land owner

Though the project was completed in March last year, the NHAI was facing several constraints as far as setting up of the toll plaza in West Jaintia Hills due to land hurdles.

The toll plazas are usually six lanes but the toll plaza in West Jaintia Hills will be four lane due to unavailability of land

The  GR Infrastructure  which implemented the project has to maintain the road for another three  years. adding the 102 km long road was constructed at a cost of 683 crore Rupees by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

Sources also said that now there is proposal to further upgrade the road into four lane one for which the DPR work has begun.
