Jadi market inferno destroys shops

TURA: A late night fire that broke out in Jadigittim market of south Garo Hills destroyed as many as a dozen shops before the fire could be brought under control.  Jadigittim market is approximately 55 kms from district headquarters Baghmara.

According to police, the cause of the fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit from one of the shops.

The fire reportedly broke out at around 1 O’clock in the night and it quickly swept through the small stalls and shops that stood in the congested Jadi market which happens to be one of the biggest weekly markets in the district through which the national highway passes.

Timely intervention of the fire tenders from the Fire and Emergency brigade located at nearby Nangalbibra  town and Williamnagar fire brigade station helped to bring the blaze under control.

The fire destroyed several number of shoe shops and clothes stalls inside the market and the loss is estimated to be in several lakhs.
