SHILLONG: Pynshngaiñ N. Syiem, the NPP candidate for the council polls from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency, has dismissed the allegation of distribution of money among voters.
Addressing reporters on Thursday, a day after the elections, Syiem said the incident was aimed at tarnishing his image, “which often happens during elections”.
He added that the incident is only meant to garner support for the other party.
On Wednesday, Syiem had said money was “usually given at polling stations for refreshments”.
The senior leader said on Thursday Rs 5 lakh is the amount allowed for expenditure and admitted that the persons caught were his supporters but the distribution of money was not known and there was no official communication to him about it.
Referring to the list of names, he said, “There should be evidence to substantiate any sort of writing as without any evidence, it is not the truth.”
He added that there was neither any signature nor any proper receipts.
Syiem also pointed out that distribution of money was not only in Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency.
KHNAM candidate from the constituency Glenbirth Khongwir had alleged that money was distributed by NPP on February 26.
